Understanding RULA scores and action levels
Rapid Upper Limb Assessment for tasks dominated by the arms, neck, and trunk.
RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment), developed by McAtamney & Corlett (1993), focuses on the upper body. It is the right tool when the task is dominated by arms, shoulders, neck, and trunk — for example, sewing, assembly, or computer work.
| Score | Action Level | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | AL 1 | Acceptable posture. |
| 3–4 | AL 2 | Investigate; change may be needed. |
| 5–6 | AL 3 | Investigate and change soon. |
| 7+ | AL 4 | Investigate and change immediately. |
When in doubt, run both REBA and RULA — ErgoVision computes them in parallel from the same recording.
